Student Life

Student life is more than extracurricular, it is formative. Every co-curricular experience is intentionally designed to complement academics and spiritual formation, helping students grow in wisdom, character, community, and leadership. Whether in athletics, fine arts, societies, chapel, social activities, or service, students are equipped to steward their gifts and faithfully follow Christ in every area of life.

Middle School Chapel

Chapel"To Own My Faith In Christ."

Middle School Chapel equips students to make their faith their own. Through worship, biblical teaching, and prayer, students are called to deepen their understanding of Scripture, develop habits of faith, and follow Christ with growing conviction.

As they navigate a season of significant personal growth, chapel encourages them to see every relationship, decision, and challenge through the lens of the gospel.

Societies

Every middle and high school student belongs to one of five Flatirons Academy societies. Each society serves as a place where students are known, build lasting friendships, serve alongside one another, and grow together in their faith. Students spend time with peers from other grade levels, learn from older student leaders, and are encouraged by faculty mentors who genuinely know and care for them.

Each society highlights one of the great truths of the Christian faith: Grace Alone, Faith Alone, Christ Alone, Scripture Alone, and the Glory of God Alone.

While each society may have its own history, traditions, and unique personality, they all share the same purpose: helping one another become more like Jesus Christ.

Sebaste society crest
Our Name

The Via Sebaste was a Roman military road completed around 6 BC during the reign of Caesar Augustus. Ancient milestones and surviving sections of the road confirm its existence. It crossed southern Anatolia, connecting important Roman colonies and settlements, with extensions reaching Pisidian Antioch, Iconium, and Lystra. The road helped Rome move soldiers, strengthen its control of the region, and connect distant communities to imperial power.

Acts 13–14 records Paul and Barnabas preaching throughout this region on their first missionary journey, including Pisidian Antioch, Iconium, and Lystra. Scripture does not identify the specific roads they traveled, but the Via Sebaste connected several of the cities through which the gospel spread.

Built to extend the authority of Rome, the Via Sebaste became part of the network of roads through which the message of a greater King could travel. What Rome constructed to strengthen an earthly empire became part of the infrastructure God used to prepare the way for the spread of the gospel throughout Asia Minor.

Sola Gratia
Sebaste
Our Verse

Ephesians 2:8–10

"For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them."

Our Identity

Sebaste is a community rooted in the life-giving truth that salvation is not something to be earned but received. It is a generous gift of grace from God, through Jesus Christ alone. We consistently choose to extend grace to others and seek to build a community marked by compassion, patience, and kindness.

Our Image

The crown serves as a reminder that God's grace has done more for us than forgive our sins. His grace welcomes us into His family. Through Jesus Christ, we are adopted as beloved sons and daughters of the King.

Our Motto

Sola Gratia

Saved by Grace Alone

Maris society crest
Our Name

Via Maris means “Way of the Sea,” the Latin rendering of a phrase found in Isaiah 9. The name is associated with the ancient roads that crossed Galilee, a region traveled for centuries by merchants, armies, messengers, and ordinary people.

Isaiah 9 speaks of “the way of the sea” and promises that people walking in darkness will see a great light. Matthew 4:12–16 identifies the fulfillment of this promise with the beginning of Jesus’ ministry in Galilee. Here, Christ proclaimed the kingdom of God and called people to repent, believe, and follow Him.

Along roads long traveled by merchants and conquering armies came the message of a different King. Christ called people not to trust in earthly power, but to place their faith in Him. The Christian life continues in that same faith trusting His promises, resting in His finished work, and following wherever He leads.

Sola Fide
Maris
Our Verse

Ephesians 2:8–9

"For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast."

Our Identity

Maris is a community rooted in the life-giving truth that we receive God's gracious gift of salvation through faith alone. We place our confidence in the finished work of Jesus Christ rather than on our own merit. Together we seek to grow as a community marked by trust, obedience, and hope.

Our Image

The symbol of Alpha and Omega reminds us that Jesus Christ is the beginning and the end of our faith. Through faith alone, we trust in the One who is eternal, unchanging, and faithful to keep every promise He has made.

Our Motto

Sola Fide

By Faith Alone

Sola Fide is one of the five great truths of the Protestant Reformation. Salvation is received through faith alone in Jesus Christ, not by our good works or personal merit. Genuine faith trusts Christ completely, resulting in a transformed life marked by joyful obedience, steadfast hope, and unwavering confidence in His promises.

×
Dolorosa society crest
Our Name

Via Dolorosa means “Way of Sorrow.” It is the traditional Jerusalem route associated with Jesus’ journey to the crucifixion. The present route developed through centuries of Christian tradition and pilgrimage should not be understood as a street-by-street path established by Scripture.

The Gospels record that Jesus was condemned, led away, carried the cross, was assisted by Simon of Cyrene, crucified, buried, and raised again. The significance of the Via Dolorosa rests not in the exact stones beneath His feet, but in the historical reality of Christ’s suffering, death, and victorious resurrection.

A road remembered for suffering became the pathway of our redemption. Jesus did not merely teach salvation, He accomplished it, calling His followers to walk in humble obedience, courageous faith, and unwavering hope.

Solus Christus
Dolorosa
Our Verse

Acts 4:12

"And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved."

Our Identity

Dolorosa is a community centered on the life-giving truth that Jesus Christ alone is our Savior, Lord, and King. In Him we are redeemed, restored, and reconciled to God. We follow Him with wholehearted devotion, becoming more like Him day by day. Together we cultivate a community marked by humility, courage, and faithfulness.

Our Image

The cross marks the road where Jesus willingly walked to accomplish our salvation. It reminds us that no one else could bear our sin or reconcile us to God. Our hope rests entirely in Christ alone, whose finished work on the cross is sufficient for all who believe.

Our Motto

Solus Christus

In Christ Alone

Solus Christus is one of the five great truths of the Protestant Reformation. Salvation is found in Jesus Christ alone, whose perfect life, sacrificial death, and victorious resurrection accomplished everything necessary for our redemption. He alone is our Savior, our Mediator, and the sure foundation of our hope.

×
Tauri society crest
Our Name

Tauri refers to the Taurus Mountains of Asia Minor, a formidable natural barrier between Cilicia and the Anatolian plateau. The Cilician Gates formed a narrow and strategically important passage through the mountains. Rather than a single documented Roman highway, “Via Tauri” represents the historic routes that crossed this rugged terrain.

Tarsus, Paul’s hometown, stood south of the Taurus Mountains near this corridor. Roads through the region connected Tarsus with Syria and the provinces where Paul later proclaimed the gospel.

A mountain passage demanded a trustworthy guide and secure footing. The Christian life is firmly grounded in Scripture, God’s trustworthy Word, which leads us in wisdom, establishes us in truth, and equips us to remain steadfast.

Sola Scriptura
Tauri
Our Verse

2 Timothy 3:16

"All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness."

Our Identity

Tauri is a community rooted in the life-giving truth that God's Word is our trustworthy authority for faith and life. Through the Scriptures, God reveals His character, His will, and His plan of redemption. We treasure God's Word, meditate on it daily, and seek to live it out. Together we cultivate a community marked by wisdom, integrity, and steadfastness.

Our Image

The crossed swords symbolize the power and authority of God's Word. Like a sharp sword, Scripture cuts through confusion, reveals truth, and equips God's people for every good work. They remind us to treasure God's Word, live by its truth, and courageously stand upon its promises.

Our Motto

Sola Scriptura

On Scripture Alone

Sola Scriptura is one of the five great truths of the Protestant Reformation. Scripture alone is God's inspired and trustworthy Word, the final authority for faith and life. Through the Bible, God reveals His character, His truth, and His will, equipping us to faithfully follow Jesus Christ.

×
Egnatia society crest
Our Name

The Via Egnatia was constructed by the Romans during the second century BC. Ancient milestones connect its name with Gnaeus Egnatius. The road crossed Macedonia, linked the Adriatic region to eastern cities and ports, and served soldiers, officials, merchants, messengers, and travelers. It passed through or near Philippi, Amphipolis, Apollonia, and Thessalonica.

Acts 16–17 records Paul, Silas, Timothy, and Luke entering Macedonia. Along this corridor Lydia believed, Paul and Silas were imprisoned, the Philippian jailer’s household believed, churches were established, and the gospel entered new cities. Acts does not repeatedly name the road, but Luke’s cities follow its route.

A road built for Rome became a pathway for the gospel. God uses ordinary roads, faithful people, hard circumstances, and unseen obedience. Our gifts, work, service, leadership, and victories belong to His glory.

Soli Deo Gloria
Egnatia
Our Verse

Jude 24–25

"To him who is able to keep you from stumbling and to present you blameless before the presence of his glory with great joy to the only God, our Savior, through Jesus Christ our Lord, be glory, majesty, dominion, and authority, before all time and now and forever. Amen."

Our Identity

Egnatia is a community rooted in the life-giving truth that all glory belongs to God alone. Every good gift comes from Him, and every good work finds its highest purpose in His praise. We worship Him with our minds, our hands, and our hearts, offering every part of life as an act of joyful obedience. Together we cultivate a community marked by purpose, excellence, and joyful service.

Our Image

The mountain recalls the places where God's glory was revealed throughout Scripture. From Sinai to Zion to the Mount of Transfiguration. It reminds us that God alone is worthy of all honor and praise, calling us to live every moment for His glory alone.

Our Motto

Soli Deo Gloria

To the Glory of God Alone

Soli Deo Gloria is one of the five great truths of the Protestant Reformation. Because salvation belongs entirely to God, all honor, praise, and glory belong to Him alone. Every thought, word, and deed should reflect His greatness, directing our lives and worship toward His glory.

Traditionally one of the highlights of the Flatirons Academy experience, the 8th grade trip to Washington, D.C. brings classroom learning to life while giving students a fun and memorable opportunity to deepen relationships with classmates and teachers. Back by popular demand, this year’s trip will include a reenactment of Patrick Henry’s historic speech, along with visits to Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello, James Monroe’s Highland, and George Washington’s Mount Vernon. In Washington, students will tour the U.S. Capitol, visit the Library of Congress, see our nation’s founding documents at the National Archives, explore the Smithsonian museums, and experience the monuments and memorials that tell the stories of those who have shaped and sacrificed for our country. Together, these experiences give students a firsthand encounter with the people, places, ideas, and defining moments of American history. The trip never fails to spark a deeper appreciation for our nation’s hard-won beginnings and enduring freedoms while challenging students to consider their own responsibility as Christians to be informed, thoughtful, and engaged citizens.
